Well, alot has happened since my last post. The biggest thing by far is the newest member of the Lindley family. Had my son Ace in April of this year and that put the kibosh on any craftiness until a couple of months ago. Since gaining some regular sleep (and thus energy, and sanity), I have been cranking out a TON of new stuff. I am going to be revamping the website, adding new stuff, and show off my new lines:

Neckties! Made from vintage bed linens. I will be adding them to the site this week, so keep your eyes peeled. More to follow!

Last night Brian and I headed to one of our favorite movie theaters in Austin - the Alamo Drafthouse. You get to watch a movie, eat good food, and drink beer all at the same time!  They have an extensive food and beverage menu, and will often have special limited menus that correspond with movies they are showing. So we saw "The Notorious Betty Page".  Whoooooo, that was a great movie. While listening to NPR's 'Fresh Air', I had heard an interview with the writer and director of the film, Mary Harron (who also wrote/directed "I Shot Andy Warhol" and "American Psycho) which really spiked my already high interest in seeing the film. Being someone who really appreciates accessories I kept on getting distracted looking at the details of the shoes, handbags, dresses....oh! The dresses. *big sigh* I recommend this film. Very well done, nice to look at.

I wish it would stop raining. I know it's important. I know the gardens and flowers need it. But it makes going to walks with Trixie pretty limited. Unless I throw in the towel, let her get all wet and muddy, then wash off her paws when we get back home.

Tonight I am going to keep on working on learning a snazzy graphics program called 'Gimp' that is like Photoshop, but you can download it for free of the internet. Then I'll be the 300 dpi whiz-kid. Also gonna get a steam shovel to clear out my studio. I have so many ideas but it's hard to concentrate when all I want to do is reorganize my fabrics and plastic doo-dads.

Tomorrow more of the same. And calls some peeps. And update the wesbite. And make some stuff. And sell some stuff. And pimp some stuff. A jasminemade's work is never done. Hope it'll never be! T.T.F.N.!

You know you live in Texas when there is a weather update during "My Name is Earl" that in all-caps reads "IF YOU LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME, GET OUT!"  There is a tornado that was spotted about 50 miles west of Austin. Hail two inches in diameter have been spotted and they are recording 100 mph winds.

The only time we've had a big storm here that affected our house was about 5 years ago, and with 75 mph winds, a huge chunk of our 6' wooden fence was ripped off the frame posts and tossed into our backyard.

Today's excitement was that I ordered my business cards, postcards, and jewelry display cards! So now instead of having to make them all myself, clubflyers is doing it for me!

OK, the thunder rumbling is getting louder and closer, so I am gonna sign off until it passes way far away from us......

So today, I whizzed forward in my time travel machine, and ended up 4 months later!  Wow. How the heck did that happen?

I confess, I have been a very negligent newscaster as of late. A good part of this was the excitement of Trixie into our home. Getting used to the new schedule, routines, walks, training, etc,. etc.  Add to this continued ramping up of jasminemade, and taking a wonderful trip to Portland, OR in late March and whoosh! Tempus Fugit.

I had the very best time in Portland. I have always considered it the sister-city to Austin. There is the same push and support for independently owned business, DIY craftiness, and the celebration of the not-norm. There is a kick-ass restaurant called ‘The Delta’ that serves 40 oz ice cold bottles of PBR in vintage cherry cans filled with ice. Each table gets a plate of warm, fresh cornbread with honey and butter. You can’t beat their fried okra, or po boy sammiches. It’s hard to have room for dessert, so most times we’d get one packaged up to go.

I also had a crazy-fun time at a party goods store called The Lippman Co. There you can find bins upon bins of the cutest, funky, weird, and delightful small plastic toys.  When you come in to shop, you are handed a paper bag and a sharpie marker. As you stuff your bag with goodies, you write down the quantity and the price per. Then (on an amazing honor system), they input all your Sharpie scribbles into the cash register and then invite you to a complimentary bag of freshly made popcorn. They have sections for different party themes. Pirates? Check. Firemen? Check. Luau? Check. Princess? Check. It’s really the place to go for all your party and supplies needs. Dontcha just want to grab handfuls?:

My pal Amanda has a pug too, and her name is Mimi. I was a little bummed that back home they were having a pug meet up with a luau theme, but that was swiftly eradicated when I got to attend not one, but TWO PDX pug meet-ups! This was my first time away from Trixie since we got her in January (see last post) and I was missing her like crazy. It’s weird. I have had pets all my life, but never once had a connection and deep love for an animal like I do Trixie. She is one in a million, and I am so very glad she is ours. Below is Mimi in some Easter bunny ears:

I went into a ton of great stores/boutiques while there. Some of my favorites were: Motokitty. Cari really has style down right. From vinyl bags to silk-screened shirts, she’s the bomb. Naked City on SE Hawthorne has sooooo many cute cardigans and shoes and jewelry, I wanted it all. Hello on NW 23th has a great selection of Blue Q beauty products (Miso Pretty, Dirty Girl, etc.) as well as Ugly Dolls and band-aids that look like bacon! There is a new area up and coming called ‘Alberta’, which resides on Alberta St. While there I was tickled to find “Frock”. Inside were tons of neato re/deconstructed skirts and dresses, adorable necklaces, and a much appreciated admiration for the hand-made. Another stop was 3 Monkeys on NW 23rd. Holy Macaroni they have a slew of cute stuff. While in Portland, it was really, really good I stuck to my budget. It was hard. Everything there was so colorful, unique, and unlike anything I have seen lately. Hooray for DIY Portland people!  Support them, and check out these shops. You won’t be sorry! And tell them jasminemade sentcha.

I have dived right in to the MySpace phenom. It’s an animal all unto itself. I love how with a click of a button, I can send a notice to 400+ people all at once. It has also opened up some new wholesale opportunities, which you can’t shake a stick at.  Wanna be my friend, too?

Right now I am in full-make mode. I have about 10 plates spinning on sticks and loving every minute of it. The busier I get, the more I get done. I have a TON of new trinkets to fashion into new jewelry, and my mind is bursting at the seams with new designs for my vinyl. Let me just say that it involves bambinos and bambinas!

So, back to the salt mines I go. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

So today, unexpectantly, the Pug-Stork came to our house with a little bundle of joy:

Thanks to Jen for the pic! Are you still writing 2005 on your checks? I am and it's driving me bonkers. But it only lasts until mid-February. This evening I have begin adding links to all my favorite crafty peeps. I will also add other sites I dig, bands, etc. Stay tuned, stay often!

Oh, my goodness!  It's 2006!  Gettin' my kicks in 2006!  Did you all have a nice New Year?  Mine was great...hangin' with my homies in South Carolina.  Watched one of my new most favorite movies 'The Hebrew Hammer' while chowing on some Chinese take-out. I know, I know...that might some tame, but it's just what my doctor ordered!  Guess what I did today!  I made it so you all now get FREE SHIPPING!!! That's right, you heard me, free shipping!  So buy all you want, and leave the parcel delivery to me.

This year is going to rock so great. I have so many awesome ideas just stewin' in my head. It's almost too much...I have to write it all down and make a plan, because I want to get it all done, now. Like right now. But lucky for me, I got a stellar hubby who is all crazy with the business planning ka-knowledge. You watch out, great super duper things are gonna happen! Ask me in a little while about Pug earrings!

You wanna be my MySpace friend?

OK, toots.  Momma's heading to the studio, cranking up The Like, and making some new, stellar stuff for you peeps.

I was going through my photo archives today and came across a screenshot I made last year from the 2004 Stitch photo gallery:

When I first encountered it on the website, I had no idea that someone even took a picture of my booth, and was really excited that it was chosen to represent!

12.10.05

Can it really been almost a month since I said hello to you all? Serious apologies, kiddos!  The past few weeks have been jammed-packed and whirlwind. Before the Stitch show, I was cranking out the stock so my table wouldn't have tumbleweeds flying across it.  The show itself was really alot of fun. Here is a front-on shot at my booth:

And here is an action shot that a super-crafty woman named Dixie took:

I had no idea she took the picture, but am so glad she did!  I was helping a very smart person with a jasminemade purchase.  Brian and I arrived around 4pm, and set up our booth. The doors to the public didn't open until 7pm, but once they did, hoo-doggie, it was non-stop craziness fun.  Two notables:

1) All the tables with lights were hooked up to one of two generators. And each table was connected to the next. Like dominos, if one got knocked out, or a cord was tripped on, the whole tent's inhabitants were blanketed in darkness.  Super-smart Mr. L quickly supplied me with flashlights and the shoppers didn't have to stand around and scratch their heads in confusion.  The power came on just a few minutes after it went out, so it never really marred the event.

2) It was hot.  Freakishly hot.  Mid-November and it was about 85 degrees at 8pm. Add a ton of people's body heat and I began to melt.  Luckily in our cooler were several bottles of water.  You gotta have good snacks and drinks at a show. And a good partner in crime.  I feel lucky to have had both that evening.

I also had the privilege of meeting a truly amazing purse designer named Adrien Lucas.  Her booth was next to mine, and the whole evening we talked and had a great time.  In need of money pouch, she bought one of my 'Fluffy' bags:

She had looped the keyring around on of her jean belt loops, and voila! Please do check out her purses.  She puts a great deal of time and craft into them, and the end results are gorgeous.

A few days after the Stitch show, Mr. L and I headed to Portland, OR for a week, which was fabbo.  When we got back, we had have about 3 more weeks to put our noses to the grindstone with our jobs, get the website more pretty and functional, and process the jasminemade orders that have been coming in.  So that gets us all up to date.  This week we are preparing for the annual East Coast migration to see our families.  I call it the 'planes, trains, and automobiles' tour, as I will be traveling in all three at some point over the next couple of weeks.

I would like to take this time to wish you all a very Happy Holidays.  However you and yours celebrate it, may it be filled with love, happiness and mountains of candy.

See you all in a few!

11.12.05

Tomorrow is the Stitch show at Emo's in Austin, TX and I hope to see all of you out there. Doors open at 7pm. Be there, or be square!

11.5.05

I am really excited because today I designed my logo:

This design is something I have always doodled, and for the longest time, Brian tried to convince me this was the right image for the job.  In the end, I agreed too. It started as a Sharpie marker design, but with the magic of Corel Draw, it turned into a nice, snazzy, smooth lined jpeg. It's also nice to finally have a product recognition logo.

05.05.05

Well, hello, everyone!  Jasmine here, testing out the CityMax website builder and whoo-doggy, is it taking longer than I thought it would. But I am learning all kinds of mad-skills and code knowledgery that I am getting more and more confident. Stay tuned for frequent updates and hellos. TTFN!
